How to Look Up a Canadian Property Parcel for Free

A step-by-step way to find any Canadian parcel for free: pick the right provincial map, search by address or ID, and know when you have to pay.

You can see the shape and identifier of most Canadian land parcels for free. Ownership documents usually cost money. These steps work in any province or territory.

Step 1: Pick the right map

Step 2: Search by what you have

Step 3: Turn on the parcel layer and click

Some maps hide lot lines until you zoom in or switch on a layer. Click the parcel and write down its identifier. Our Canadian parcel ID guide explains what each kind of number means.

Step 4: Decide whether you need to pay

A free map is enough to check the lot shape, the location and the parcel number. Ownership, mortgages, easements and registered plans come from the provincial registry, which usually charges a fee.

Step 5: Don't measure off the map

Online parcel lines are not a survey. For anything with legal or money stakes, get the registered plan or hire a land surveyor licensed in that province.

All 13 provinces and territories are on our Canada land maps hub, and the US is on the Land Map.
