Ontario Property Maps: PIN, ARN and Free City Maps
Ontario has no free province-wide parcel map. Here is what a PIN and an ARN are, and the free Toronto, Ottawa and London maps that show lot lines.
If you're looking for a free Ontario property line map that covers the whole province, the short answer is that there isn't one. Ontario's land registry is electronic and is searched through OnLand, where parcel registers are sold for a fee. Several big cities do publish free maps with property lines.
PIN vs ARN
- PIN (Property Identification Number). Each registered parcel has a nine-digit PIN in the land registry. It's what you use to order a parcel register.
- ARN (Assessment Roll Number). The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) gives each property an ARN for assessment and tax. It appears on assessment notices and tax bills.
A PIN tracks the land registry record and an ARN tracks the tax record. One property can show up with both, but the numbers aren't interchangeable.
Free city maps that show property lines
Search by address, then turn on the property or parcel layer if it isn't showing. These maps are good for lot shapes and nearby zoning. Ownership and registered documents still come from the land registry.
Outside those cities
Many other Ontario municipalities and counties have their own GIS viewers. If a place isn't listed on our Ontario land maps page, check the municipality's own website for a "maps" or "GIS" link.
Accuracy: a map is not a survey
Online parcel maps are drawn for registry, tax and planning use. Lines can be off by a few metres, sometimes more. For a fence, a setback, a building permit or a sale, check the registered plan and hire a Canadian land surveyor licensed in that province or territory.
