Where Are People Moving To in the US? County Data
Where Americans moved from April 2020 to July 2025: counties and states with the biggest net gains and losses from domestic moves, from Census estimates.
Looking for where people are moving to in the US? The Census Bureau's county estimates track net domestic migration: people moving in from other parts of the US minus people moving out. From April 1, 2020 to July 1, 2025, Collin County, Texas had the largest net gain from domestic moves (+133,407), and Los Angeles County, California had the largest net loss (−693,096).
1,936 of the 3,144 counties and county equivalents gained more people from the rest of the US than they lost. The tables below show where the moves went, where they came from, and how each state did, with a link to each county's official parcel viewer.

Moving for land: what to check first
- Fast-growing counties change quickly. New subdivisions, rezonings and annexations show up in plats and parcel layers on their own schedule. Check recent recorded plats if a lot looks missing.
- Look past the county total. Growth inside a county is uneven. The parcel viewer and the county's zoning map show which areas are being subdivided and which are still rural.
- Taxes follow growth. Fast-growing counties often reassess property more often. Look up the parcel's assessed value and tax history on the county's own site.
- Confirm with the source. Use the official viewer for boundaries and owner names, and the county recorder for deeds and easements.
