Assessor Map vs Recorded Plat
The assessor map exists to bill taxes. The recorded plat exists to define a subdivision in the land records.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Assessors copy plats, then edit for splits and combinations. Their map can be newer than the plat and still less authoritative about easements.
On the recorded sheet
When you need the building line or the drainage note, get the plat. When you need the current acreage on the roll, read the assessor.
The mix-up to avoid
Both can be 'official' for their own job. They are not official for the same job.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
