Bell County mixes one of the Army’s largest posts, a major medical center and some of the richest blackland farms in Texas. The Bell CAD parcel map ties all of it together, parcel by parcel.
Using the Bell CAD map
The appraisal district’s map is hosted by a Texas mapping company and loads with a short notice about limits of the data. After you accept, search by owner, address or property ID, or click a lot. Results show the legal description, acreage, deed volume and page, and values. There is a layer list for parcels, subdivisions, lot numbers and aerial photos, plus a coordinate display that can report state plane feet or latitude and longitude.
You can reopen it from the Bell County line of our Texas directory or by clicking the county on our interactive U.S. map.
Living next to Fort Cavazos
Fort Cavazos, known as Fort Hood until 2023, spreads across western Bell and neighboring Coryell County. Soldiers, families and civilian workers drive demand for rentals and starter homes in Killeen, Harker Heights and Nolanville, and many investors buy there for steady tenants. Land near the post and its airfields can fall under noise and accident-potential zones that limit certain uses. Artillery and training noise carries for miles, so visit a property at different times of day before you buy.
How to find property lines in Bell County
Most homes in the county sit on platted lots, so the recorded subdivision plat is the first document to get. The CAD record names the subdivision, block and lot; the County Clerk in Belton can supply the plat and deed. On rural land east of Interstate 35, descriptions run from original surveys with abstract numbers. Hire a Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor before a fence dispute gets expensive.
Easements for drainage and utilities are common along back lot lines in newer subdivisions; see how to spot easements.
Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow
Two Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs, Belton Lake on the Leon River and Stillhouse Hollow Lake on the Lampasas, sit west of Belton. The Corps owns a wide band of land around each, so private lots usually border public ground rather than the water. That keeps shorelines open for recreation, but it also means no private docks in most places. Morgan’s Point Resort is the main residential community on Belton Lake.
Temple, medicine and rail
Temple began as a railroad town and today is anchored by a large medical center and a busy distribution sector along the interstate. Industrial parks and warehouse sites show on the map as big rectangular parcels near highway interchanges. Residential growth has spread west toward Belton and south toward Salado.
Blackland prairie farms
East of I-35, the rich, dark clay soils of the Blackland Prairie grow cotton, corn, wheat and sorghum around Holland, Rogers and Bartlett. Those same clays shrink and swell with moisture, cracking slabs and moving fences. Foundation engineers are busy here; ask for any repair records on an older house. The parcel map’s acreage figures help compare farm prices per acre.
Salado and the aquifer
Salado is a historic village on Salado Creek, known for its springs, art galleries and old inns. The northern segment of the Edwards Aquifer lies beneath this part of the county, and a local groundwater conservation district regulates wells. If you plan a new well, check spacing and registration rules first.
Value protests
Bell County’s fast growth has pushed values up steadily. Owners who disagree with a notice can file a protest with the appraisal district, typically by mid-May. Use nearby sales and repair estimates as evidence.
City limits, ETJ and county rules
Bell County’s cities, including Killeen, Temple, Belton, Harker Heights and Nolanville, each have extraterritorial jurisdictions around their limits where some city subdivision rules apply. Since 2023, Texas law has let many landowners petition to leave an ETJ, and owners in a number of Texas counties have used it. That changes which platting rules apply. If you plan to divide land, ask the county and the nearest city which rules govern before hiring an engineer. The CAD map shows city limits but not every ETJ release.
Belton, the county seat, is home to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a historic courthouse square. The old Chisholm Trail crossed the Leon River near town.
Is the Bell County GIS map accurate?
Plat-based lots in Killeen and Temple generally line up with the ground within a few feet. Rural tracts described from old surveys can shift more. The district itself treats the map as approximate, so rely on a survey and the recorded plat. See why tax maps differ from surveys.

Frequently asked questions
Is Fort Hood the same as Fort Cavazos?
Yes. The post was renamed Fort Cavazos in 2023 and spans western Bell and Coryell counties.
Can I have a private dock on Belton Lake?
Rarely. Federal land managed by the Army engineers rings Belton Lake, leaving a public strip between homes and the shoreline.
Why do Bell County foundations crack?
Blackland clay soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, stressing slabs.
Where are Bell County deeds recorded?
With the County Clerk in Belton.

Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey — especially for fences, setbacks, or boundary disputes.
