Erie County Real Property Parcel Search: On-Map Parcel Viewer and Tax Lookup (NY)
An Erie County real property parcel search in New York uses the terms the state uses: “real property” for land and buildings, and section-block-lot tax map numbers for parcels. Erie County’s tools are the On-Map parcel viewer from county GIS and the Real Property Tax Services parcel search. Why New York says “real property parcel search”
In New York, property tax records are organized around real property: land and permanent improvements. Assessments are handled by the town or city assessor, and county Real Property Tax Services maintains tax maps and a subset of the state’s Real Property System data. So a real property parcel search in Erie County usually means looking up a tax map parcel (section, block and lot) to see ownership, assessment and tax information.
Erie County real property parcel search on paytax.erie.gov
Erie County’s real property parcel search link leads to the Erie County Tax Payment Site, whose menu includes Make Online Payment, Tax Inquiry and Parcel Search. Real Property Tax Services says the property data there is a subset of the New York State Real Property System. What the site can do depends on where the property is:
- City of Buffalo: owners can pay current Erie County property taxes online.
- Outside Buffalo: current county taxes are paid to the local town or city clerk or receiver of taxes.
- Delinquent taxes: prior-year delinquent taxes in any town or city can be paid online.

The Erie County On-Map parcel viewer
On-Map is the county GIS parcel viewer. County GIS describes it as a view-and-query tool for searching tax parcel data, viewing aerial and Pictometry imagery, and making custom maps. The parcels layer was current to 2025 when we checked, and the county offers its 2025 parcel GIS data as a free download.
Two notices on the viewer are worth knowing. The county offers an alternate site if you have trouble with layers or printing. And the direct link from a parcel to Tax Inquiry was removed, so use paytax.erie.gov for tax details instead. County GIS covers 44 municipalities and can be reached at (716) 858-8390.
Erie County tax maps
Real Property Tax Services maintains tax maps for every municipality in the county. According to the county, they show property lines, rights of way, dimensions, acreage, water boundaries, special districts and section-block-lot numbers. The Tax Mapping Office is at (716) 858-6657. Tax maps are assessment tools, not surveys.
