Free Plat Map App
You do not need a paid plat map app. A phone browser and the county's official viewer are the free way to open the map.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
A free plat map app, in the useful sense, is the county parcel viewer opened on your phone. App-store tools that promise lot lines nationwide are usually drawing a copied parcel layer. That copy can lag the county, and the app is not the assessor's record.
Use the browser you already have
- On your phone, open the Platbookmapper home page.
- Search the county and open the official GIS link.
- Search the address or parcel number. Pinch-zoom and rotate only if that county's viewer allows it.
- Use the phone's share or bookmark control to save that county viewer. Next time you can skip the search and open the county directly.
What a phone is good for
Standing on the lot, a phone is enough to confirm you are looking at the right parcel, to read the parcel number, and to screenshot the assessor's map for a contractor or a family member. Screenshot the county page, including the office name, so you remember which map you used.
What a phone is not good for
A small screen makes it easy to mistake a fence or a driveway edge for a lot line. GPS dots on a phone wander. The parcel outline can be several feet off the monuments in the ground. Do not set a fence from the app. Order a survey when the line itself is the question.
Paid apps are optional convenience. The free path is Platbookmapper to the county viewer, in whatever browser is already on the phone.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
