Upstate South Carolina has grown quickly, and Greenville County Maps is how locals keep up with who owns what. The viewer is maintained by the county’s GIS Division and ties into Real Property Services records. Here is how to search it by tax map number and what it can and cannot tell you.

Greenville County Maps, the county viewer

The viewer is an Esri app with a search panel, map collections, a basemap switch including satellite, a my-location button and printing. The county publishes a user’s guide as a PDF, which is worth skimming if you plan to use the viewer often. Parcel searches run against the tax parcel layer, and results can be exported to a CSV file for use in a spreadsheet.

The viewer currently carries a caution that Real Property Services is changing software, and that some building figures, such as square footage and bedroom counts, may be off during the switch. Double-check those figures on the official record for now. You will find the viewer under Greenville in our South Carolina directory, or by clicking the Upstate on our county map.

Search by owner, address or tax map number

Greenville parcels are identified by a tax map number, also called the PIN. Real Property Services uses a 13-digit version of that number, and its separate search accepts a name, street, subdivision or map number. In the viewer:

Building a list with the CSV export

The CSV export is the most underrated feature in the viewer. Search a road or draw a selection, export the results, and you have a spreadsheet of tax map numbers, owners and addresses. Neighborhood groups use it to invite property owners to meetings. Land buyers use it to contact every owner along a creek. Surveyors use it to list adjoining owners for notices. Keep the spreadsheet tied to the tax map numbers rather than names, because names change with every sale while the number stays with the land.

Is the Greenville County GIS map accurate?

It is a good map, but it is not a survey. Parcel boundaries are built from deeds and plats and fitted to aerial imagery, and the county updates ownership often. Lines can still sit a few feet from the real corners, more so in the wooded foothills north of Travelers Rest, where old deeds call to trees and branches. Use the map to find the right parcel and documents, then let a surveyor mark the line. See assessor map versus survey.

How to find property lines in Greenville County

  1. Look up the parcel and note the tax map number, owner and deed reference.
  2. Search the Greenville County Register of Deeds for the recorded plat and deed.
  3. Walk the lot with the plat in hand and look for iron pins at the corners.
  4. Hire a South Carolina Professional Land Surveyor for new fences, additions near setbacks, or disputes.

Greenville County acreage map: foothills and permission

The northern end of the county climbs into the Blue Ridge escarpment. Jones Gap and Caesars Head state parks, part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, protect a large block of it. Below them are farms, timber tracts and scattered cabins where acreage is still common. To ask about hunting or access on private land, identify the owner in the viewer and contact them directly. For public hunting, check South Carolina DNR’s rules for any Wildlife Management Area land. State park land has its own restrictions.

Greenville County plat book: what exists

No commercial county plat book is sold for Greenville that we could verify. Recorded plats at the Register of Deeds are the official source for lot dimensions and easements, and they are public records. For a current, free ownership overview, the viewer and its CSV export do what a plat book used to do. Anyone researching old family land should start at the Register of Deeds and work backward through the deed references.

Who uses Greenville County Maps

Agents and buyers use it to check school zones and neighbors, and developers look for tracts along growth corridors near Greer and Simpsonville. Farm owners on the county’s northern edge confirm which parcels are theirs before they sell timber. Neighbors use it to settle who mows a strip, at least until a surveyor settles it for real. The CSV export makes it a quick tool for building mailing lists for community meetings.

Zoning, flood and taxes

Parts of unincorporated Greenville County have zoning and parts do not. Cities such as Greenville, Greer, Mauldin and Simpsonville set their own rules, so check with the right planning office before you buy. The Reedy and Enoree rivers have mapped floodplains (how to check flood zones). Tax bills come from the county Tax Collector. For zoning basics, see zoning overlays in a parcel viewer.

Greenville County Maps not loading?

Close other heavy tabs, switch the basemap back to streets if satellite imagery is slow, and try another browser. If a search returns nothing, check the spelling of the owner name, or try the tax map number without spaces or dashes. Every other South Carolina county is on our state GIS hub.
