How Plat Book and Page Numbers Work
Book and page, or cabinet and slide, is the index number of one recorded plat.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Clerks assign the number when they file the sheet. A deed, mortgage, or tax account cites it so the lot description does not have to repeat every bearing.
On the recorded sheet
Write the citation exactly. Book 8 page 8 is not book 8 page 18. Some offices use map book, slide, or instrument number instead of page.
The mix-up to avoid
The number on a realtor flyer can be a tax map sheet, not the plat book. Match it to the legal description on the deed.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
