How to look up parcel numbers on Google Maps
Short answer: Google Maps is great for finding the house, not for official APNs. Use it as a stepping stone to county GIS.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Google can
- Geocode the address
- Show imagery of buildings and driveways
- Help you confirm the right block
Google can’t (reliably)
- Serve the county’s authoritative parcel ID layer
- Guarantee survey-grade property lines
- Replace assessor ownership/tax records
Workflow that works
- Optional Google pin for orientation.
- Open the county viewer via Platbookmapper.
- Click the parcel → copy the official number.
Not a survey. Web parcel maps are tax and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey — especially for fences, setbacks, or disputes.
