How Townhouse Lot Lines Work
Townhouse plats often put a lot line through the common wall so each home sits on its own lot.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
The line may be the center of the wall. Yards can be tiny, and a maintenance easement may cross the neighbor's side for the wall you cannot reach from your lot.
On the recorded sheet
The homeowners association may own the road and the green space as separate tracts. Your lot is the footprint plus the yard the plat gives you.
The mix-up to avoid
The row looks like one building. The plat may still be twenty lots.
Find the county map
Open Platbookmapper and pick the county that taxes the land. Use that viewer to get the parcel ID, then match it to the recorded plat if you need the easements and lot numbers.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
