Lot vs Parcel vs Tract
A lot is a numbered piece of a plat. A parcel is a tax account. A tract is a broader word for a piece of land.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
One parcel can contain several lots if they were never split on the tax roll. One lot can become several parcels after a split. A tract might be either, plus unplatted acreage.
On the recorded sheet
The assessor's parcel ID tracks the bill. The plat's lot number tracks the recorded geometry.
The mix-up to avoid
Quoting a parcel number in a deed is not a substitute for the lot and block citation the plat created.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
