Plat Map vs a Boundary Survey

A plat mapped the subdivision when it was recorded. A boundary survey locates that description on the ground today.

The plat states the geometry the lots were supposed to have. A boundary survey recovers monuments, measures the occupation, and reports where the deed lines fall now.

On the recorded sheet

Corners called for on the plat may be buried, replaced, or missing. The surveyor is the person who ties the paper to the pins.

The mix-up to avoid

Printing the plat at a larger scale does not make it a survey of your house.

Find the county map

The county GIS map is the practical place to start. Find it from the Platbookmapper directory, then treat the recorded plat and deed as the documents behind the picture.
