Plat Map vs Tax Map

A tax map is the assessor's sheet of parcels. A plat is the recorded subdivision drawing.

Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.

Tax maps exist so the county can bill the right account. They are often drafted to follow plats, but they are updated for splits, combinations, and ownership, not to recertify a survey.

On the recorded sheet

A tax map sheet number is not a plat book and page unless the office uses the same system. The legend usually says it is for assessment.

The mix-up to avoid

Do not use a tax map alone to place a fence. It is a working copy for taxation.

Find the county map

Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
