Plat Map vs the Deed
The plat draws the lot. The deed is the instrument that transfers it.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
A deed for a platted lot usually cites the lot, block, and plat book instead of repeating every course. The plat is incorporated by that reference.
On the recorded sheet
Easements can appear on the plat, in the deed, or in a separate recorded document. Reading only one of them misses the others.
The mix-up to avoid
The deed does not redraw the lot if it says 'according to the recorded plat.' The plat remains the picture.
Find the county map
Open Platbookmapper and pick the county that taxes the land. Use that viewer to get the parcel ID, then match it to the recorded plat if you need the easements and lot numbers.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
