What Is a Conservation Easement on a Map
A conservation easement limits development in favor of a land trust or a government holder, and the restricted area should be in the land records.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Some plats outline the restricted area and cite the easement's recording number. Others leave it to a separate document you find by searching the chain.
On the recorded sheet
The easement can ban a house on acreage that still has a parcel ID and a tax bill. The bill does not cancel the restriction.
The mix-up to avoid
A green overlay on a web map may be a habitat layer, not the recorded easement. Read the instrument.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
