What Is a Plat Map
A plat map is the recorded drawing that divides land into lots, blocks, easements, and dedicated streets.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
A plat map is the survey drawing a landowner records so a tract can be sold as numbered lots. The recorder's stamp is what turns a draft into a public subdivision plat.
On the recorded sheet
You should see lot numbers, block numbers, the right-of-way width, and the easements the owner granted. Bearings and distances, or a tie to a monument, show how the lines were measured.
The mix-up to avoid
A picture of lot lines on a tax website is usually a copy of that plat for assessment. It is not a new survey, and it does not move a fence or a building into compliance.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
