What Is a Side Lot Line
A side lot line is an edge that runs from the front of the lot toward the rear, usually between neighbors.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Side setbacks keep the house off that line. A zero-lot-line product is the exception, and it has to be written on the plat or in the code.
On the recorded sheet
Utility easements often sit along a side or rear line. The easement can ban a shed even when the setback would allow it.
The mix-up to avoid
The side line is not the midpoint between two houses unless a survey says the houses were built that way.
Find the county map
The county GIS map is the practical place to start. Find it from the Platbookmapper directory, then treat the recorded plat and deed as the documents behind the picture.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
