What Is a Storm Sewer Easement
A storm sewer easement covers the underground pipe or inlet that carries runoff, plus room to repair it.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
The plat shows the easement width and sometimes the pipe size. The pipe may not sit in the center of the strip.
On the recorded sheet
Building a garage over it risks a tear-out if the pipe fails. The easement, not the grass, is the limit.
The mix-up to avoid
Storm sewer and sanitary sewer are different pipes. The label on the plat tells you which one you have.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
