What Is a Tract on a Plat
A tract is a piece of land the plat identifies separately from the numbered lots.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Plats use tract labels for common area, drainage, or land held back from the first phase. The tract may have its own easements and a note about who owns it.
On the recorded sheet
The legal description becomes Tract B of the named plat, the same way a lot is cited.
The mix-up to avoid
In unplatted land, people also say 'tract' for any parcel. On a plat, it is a labeled piece of that plat.
Find the county map
Start at Platbookmapper, search the county, and open the local GIS link. Write down the parcel number before you compare the screen to a paper plat.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
