What Is an Amended Plat

An amended plat corrects or updates a recorded plat without pretending the first filing never happened.

Amendments fix a bearing, an easement label, a lot number, or a clerical error. Some jurisdictions also use an amended plat for a small lot-line change.

On the recorded sheet

The title should identify the original plat and the lots affected. The recorder files the amendment where the first plat can be found.

The mix-up to avoid

A note in a deed does not amend the plat. The correction has to be on a filed plat or a filed affidavit the local rules accept.

Find the county map

Open Platbookmapper and pick the county that taxes the land. Use that viewer to get the parcel ID, then match it to the recorded plat if you need the easements and lot numbers.
