What Is an Outlot
An outlot is a tract on a plat that is not one of the numbered building lots.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Developers label storm ponds, future phases, well sites, or leftover land as outlots. The letter or number is often 'Outlot A' rather than a lot in the sequence.
On the recorded sheet
The plat note may say an outlot is not a buildable lot, or that it is reserved for a later replat. Ownership can sit with the developer or the association.
The mix-up to avoid
An outlot is still real estate. It is just not the same product as Lot 12.
Find the county map
The county GIS map is the practical place to start. Find it from the Platbookmapper directory, then treat the recorded plat and deed as the documents behind the picture.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
