What Lot Depth Means on a Plat
Lot depth is the distance from the front line toward the rear, defined by the code or shown between two lines on the plat.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
On a rectangular lot it is simple. On a pie-shaped lot the two side lines differ, so the plat or the code states an average or a minimum.
On the recorded sheet
Depth controls how deep a house pad can sit after front and rear setbacks. It is not the same as the longer side if the lot is angled.
The mix-up to avoid
Do not subtract the setbacks in your head from a GIS click. Use the plat distances.
Find the county map
Search the county on the Platbookmapper home page. The directory links to the official parcel viewer. It does not draw the lots, and the line on the screen is an assessment map, not a survey.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
