Why GIS Lot Lines Move
County GIS lines move when the assessor edits the parcel layer, not because the ground shifted.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
Splits, combinations, better aerials, and a shift from old drawings to newer coordinates all redraw the picture. The recorded plat stays the same until a new plat is filed.
On the recorded sheet
A line that jumped a few feet after a website update is often a drawing correction. It is not a court judgment.
The mix-up to avoid
Save the parcel ID. The picture is allowed to be revised. The ID is how you ask what changed.
Find the county map
Open Platbookmapper and pick the county that taxes the land. Use that viewer to get the parcel ID, then match it to the recorded plat if you need the easements and lot numbers.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
