Why Google Earth Does Not Show Official Lot Lines
Google Earth shows imagery and a few boundary layers that are not your county's recorded plat.
Platbookmapper is an Amazon Associate. If you buy through an Amazon link on this page, we earn a commission. The link is a product, not the county map.
The product is not the assessor's parcel fabric and it is not the recorder's plat book. Lines you turn on there can be outdated, generalized, or from a different dataset.
On the recorded sheet
For the tax lot, open the county GIS viewer. For the easements and lot numbers, get the recorded plat.
The mix-up to avoid
A measurement you draw on the globe is a screen measurement. It is not a surveyed distance.
Find the county map
Start at Platbookmapper, search the county, and open the local GIS link. Write down the parcel number before you compare the screen to a paper plat.
Not a survey. County GIS and tax parcel maps are assessment and planning layers. They are not a substitute for a recorded plat, deed, or licensed survey.
