Delaware County has been one of Ohio’s fastest-growing places for years. Cornfields on one side of the road and new subdivisions on the other are common. The Delaware County Auditor GIS map shows every parcel, and the county’s long-running DALIS program means the data behind it is unusually easy to get.

The Auditor’s GIS map and DALIS

In Ohio, the county auditor handles appraisal and parcel mapping. Delaware County’s Auditor publishes a web GIS map with a parcel layer you can search by owner, address or parcel number, plus a mobile version for phones. The county’s broader GIS home page links other mapping tools. The DALIS project (the Delaware Appraisal Land Information System) offers downloadable parcel files, a parcel index and CAD-format map data for people who want to work offline.

Occasional maintenance notices appear on the Auditor’s site, and the Auditor’s property search is the backup when the map is down. The Auditor map is linked from our Ohio directory listing for Delaware County, and the county is on the national county map.

Your tax bill shows the parcel number, and it is the cleanest search. Other tips:

How to find property lines in Delaware County

  1. Pull the legal description off the parcel record. Many rural tracts west of the Scioto River are described by Virginia Military District surveys rather than a neat section grid.
  2. Get the recorded plat or deed from the Delaware County Recorder.
  3. Walk the corners with the plat and look for iron pins.
  4. Hire an Ohio professional surveyor for fences, additions or disputes.

The Virginia Military District point matters. Those early surveys used irregular metes and bounds, so lines west of the Scioto can run at odd angles.

Delaware County plat book and historic atlases

We could not confirm a current commercial plat book for Delaware County. For history, the county is well covered. The 1866 Atlas of Delaware Co., Ohio by F. W. Beers is online through Delaware County Memory and DPLA, with township pages hosted by Oberlin. The county Records Center offers the 1875 county atlas as a complete PDF. These atlases show who owned the farms that later became today’s subdivisions.

Downloading parcel data

If you want to work with parcel data in your own GIS or CAD software, DALIS makes it unusually easy. Its download page offers a countywide parcel file, a parcel index and CAD-format map data. Engineers, surveyors and researchers use it to build base maps without tracing lines from a screen. Everyone else can stick with the web map, which draws from the same county data.

Is the Delaware County GIS map accurate?

The Auditor’s map is a tax map. It is detailed, but the lines come from recorded descriptions fitted to imagery. Irregular early surveys in the Virginia Military District, together with fast-changing subdivisions, mean the drawn line can differ from the ground by a few feet or more. When a line matters, a survey decides. See tax map versus survey.

Delaware County acreage map and hunting permission

North and east of the city of Delaware, farms and woodlots are still common, and the Auditor’s map is a good acreage map for them. To hunt private land, click the tracts along a creek or woodline, note the owners, and ask for written permission. Public options include Delaware State Park, the Delaware Wildlife Area and Alum Creek State Park, all managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources with their own hunting rules. Check ODNR before you go.

Towns, townships and how the county is changing

The city of Delaware is the county seat. The southern townships, including Liberty, Orange, Genoa and Concord, carry most of the suburban growth spilling north from Columbus. Farther north, around Ashley, Ostrander and Sunbury, fields and woodlots still dominate. That mix is why the Auditor’s map gets such heavy use. On one screen you can see a new subdivision’s phase lines sitting right next to a century-old farm described by an irregular survey. Builders, farm families and first-time buyers all end up at the same map.

Zoning, flood and taxes

Townships and cities set zoning in Ohio, so check with the township zoning office or city planning department for your parcel. Floodplain along the Olentangy, the Scioto and the reservoirs is worth a look (flood zones in a parcel viewer). Tax bills come from the Treasurer, and values come from the Auditor.

Auditor GIS not loading?

Check for a maintenance notice first. Then try the mobile version or the Auditor’s property search. Clearing the cache or switching browsers fixes most other problems. The Ohio GIS hub has every other county, and our Franklin County guide just south.

Frequently asked questions

What is DALIS in Delaware County, Ohio?

DALIS is the Delaware Appraisal Land Information System, the county project that maintains and shares parcel mapping data, including downloadable parcel files.

Is there a free Delaware County, Ohio plat book?

The 1866 and 1875 county atlases are free online. For current ownership, the Auditor’s GIS map is free.

Why is my property line different on the GIS map?

Tax maps are compiled from deeds and plats and fitted to imagery, and early Virginia Military District surveys were irregular. A survey shows the real line.

Can parcel numbers change in Delaware County?

Yes. Splits and combinations typically create new parcel numbers, so older paperwork may show a retired number. The Auditor’s records track the change.
