Before you buy or build near Rising Star, check the Eastland County flood zone map: FEMA's zone label affects insurance, building rules and resale. Covered here for Eastland County: finding the address on FEMA's map, decoding A, AE and X, and pairing it with the Texas county CAD map.

Getting started with the Eastland County flood zone map

For land near Romney, the official source is FEMA's Flood Map Service Center: enter the street address, and pick the FIRMette or map view. Rural land near Rising Star with no street number can still be found: zoom in from the nearest road then click the parcel area.

The free map to start with

Property in and around Morton Valley can be looked up on the Texas county CAD map, free to use and open without a login. For property near Rising Star, type a street address, an owner's name or a parcel number, and the matching parcel lights up. For property near Olden, save the parcel ID while you have it open; every records desk in the county will want it.

Low spots and local drainage

Low-lying fields near Nimrod may not have detailed mapping, so look for water marks and debris lines. Wet ground around Carbon is a separate issue from flood zones; check the National Wetlands Inventory mapper for a first look.

Backing up the map with records

For anything that matters, get the recorded deed from the County Clerk; the viewer just points to it, which applies near Carbon as much as anywhere. For a parcel near Kokomo, have ready the instrument number listed on the parcel record to skip a name search.

A quick look at the area

Eastland is the county seat, which is where the courthouse records live. Other places on the map include Cisco, Gorman, Ranger, and Carbon. Roughly 18,037 people live in Eastland County (Census estimate, 2023) spread over about 927 square miles. Eastland County was formed in 1873, and some chains of title near Ranger are long.

When a parcel crosses a boundary

Eastland County meets Brown County, Callahan County, Comanche County, Erath County, and Palo Pinto County, all with their own assessor records. A tract near the line by Cisco may be split across two assessors' files, so open the adjacent map as well. Out toward Ranger, the Platbookmapper state page links every bordering county map across Texas.

Using it on a phone

Most viewers work in a phone browser, which helps when you're standing on land near Ranger, though signal can drop in rural spots. A saved image of the lot near Ranger and its lines helps when you meet an owner or agent.

What the zone letters mean

For land near Ranger, any A or V zone are Special Flood Hazard Areas, which FEMA defines as a 1% annual chance of flooding. For property near Morton Valley, a shaded X area is moderate risk, roughly the 100- to 500-year range; plain X, or C on older maps, means minimal mapped risk.

What the map can't tell you

For land near Romney, acreage on the record is an assessed number; only a licensed surveyor can set the real boundary on the ground. For a tract near Gorman, records update in batches, so a deed recorded last month may not show yet.

A short flood checklist

For a home near Nimrod, ask the seller whether the home has flooded before closing; an insurance quote early keeps the budget honest.

Parcel lines plus flood zones

FEMA's map shows zones but not ownership, so pair it with the Texas county CAD map to see exactly which lot near Cisco you're looking at.

Rural deeds near Carbon are often described by metes and bounds, listing bearings, distances and landmarks. Platted lots around Olden usually use lot and block from a recorded plat instead, making them easier to find. Copy the legal description from the record for the parcel near Carbon for any title or survey request.

What a flood zone means for a buyer

If a building sits in a Special Flood Hazard Area and a federally regulated lender is involved, flood insurance is generally required where the community participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, for land near Romney included. Building or adding on near Nimrod in a mapped zone usually means extra permit review; check with the county or town building office before you plan.
