Marion County is thoroughbred pasture, springs and a national forest, with Ocala at the center and fast-growing retirement communities on its southern edge. Map It+ is the Property Appraiser’s window onto all of it.

Getting into Map It+

The Property Appraiser’s office in Ocala places a disclaimer page in front of the map. In short, it warns that the map cannot stand in for a surveyor or a title examiner, notes that the data exists mainly to support assessment under Florida law, and that the office accepts no liability for how it is used. Click the acceptance link at the bottom, and the map opens in a new tab.

The current version is an Esri Experience app titled the Marion County Parcel Mapping Application, built with a vendor toolkit called REACH. Along with Search and a layer list, its toolbar offers a table you can filter, a way to bring in outside data, sketching and printing, a Buffer tool, an Elevations tool, XY coordinates and a choice of basemaps. The buffer tool typically selects the parcels within a set distance of a chosen one, and the elevation tool helps on the rolling land west of Ocala.

Map It+ sits alongside the office’s property search and sales search in the site menu, so you can move from a parcel on the map to its full record and back. The map is listed under Marion County in the Florida section of our directory, and you can find the county on our map of all U.S. counties.

The parcel number on the TRIM notice is the most reliable search key. Owner searches work best with the last name first. Once you find the parcel, the record lists the legal description, land and building details, exemptions and sales. Tips for this county:

How to find property lines in Marion County

Horse farms and rural homesites here tend to use metes and bounds or section-based descriptions, while subdivisions rely on plats.

  1. Write down the legal description from the Property Appraiser’s record.
  2. Request the deed and plat from the Marion County Clerk of Court and Comptroller, which keeps the Official Records.
  3. On a farm, fence lines are a clue but not proof; board fences were often set a few feet inside the line.
  4. A Florida licensed surveyor and mapper can set or confirm corners before new fencing or a barn.

Horse farm country

The county promotes itself as a horse capital, and the rolling land northwest of Ocala around Reddick and Anthony is thick with thoroughbred farms. Farm parcels are often assembled from several tax parcels, so search by owner to see the whole holding. County zoning includes farmland preservation policies in parts of the rural area, which can limit how small a farm can be split.

Springs, the forest and karst ground

Silver Springs, Rainbow Springs near Dunnellon and the Ocala National Forest on the east side are signature places. The ground beneath much of the county is limestone, and sinkholes are part of life here. Florida law requires insurers to offer catastrophic ground cover collapse coverage, but sinkhole coverage beyond that is separate, so ask. The flood layer matters near the Withlacoochee and Oklawaha rivers; see how to read flood layers.

The Villages and the southern growth

Part of The Villages extends into southern Marion County, and new communities keep spreading along State Road 200 and Interstate 75. Many of these carry community development district assessments, which appear on the tax bill rather than the map.

Marion County plat book

We did not locate a current printed atlas. The Clerk’s recorded plats are official, and Map It+ shows ownership without a fee.

Acreage map and hunting permission

Pasture and timber tracts on the west side and around the forest show acreage and owners on click. Use that to identify whom to ask about access. The national forest and state wildlife management areas have their own seasons and permits set by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Is the Marion County GIS map accurate?

The office’s own disclaimer says Map It+ does not replace a survey, and it declines responsibility for accuracy. In practice, subdivision lots match imagery closely, while large farms drawn from old descriptions can shift. For any line that matters, rely on a survey, and read our comparison of appraiser maps and surveys.

Map It+ will not open?

If you land back on the disclaimer, accept again, since the map needs that step each session. Allow pop-ups and scripts for the site and reload. For the Gulf coast to the southwest, see our Pasco County guide, or browse our Florida county GIS page.
