How it works in New Zealand
New Zealand's survey and title system is national: Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) holds every land title and the cadastral parcel layer. LINZ's own Landonline system needs a paid account, but councils republish the LINZ parcel boundaries free, every week, in their public map viewers. A parcel's legal description reads like 'Lot 2 DP 456789', and ownership is shown on a Record of Title.
